ELENA RADEF: When we develop as humans, we will at some point undeniably address the spiritual part of us. We come to know there is something more – but how and what?
Before we get a clear on what that means, there are some areas we need to touch on. Allow me to take a few steps back. In my previous work I worked as a psychotherapist/psychologist dealing with mental and psychological issues.
I worked from the perspective; changing things on the inner (our soul) would influence the outer circumstances enough to make them change. That would be: Our thoughts, attitude, job and so on – then our lives would change into the direction we wished.
But how many of us know that we can’t control our feelings. They just go up and down, this truth is very evident in regards to being in love, angry, sad, depressed and so on. In other words we cannot control our feelings.
That’s why many people suffer over and over with the same issues, but in different colors. And we get so frustrated. We need to take that one step deeper, that the psychological view never addresses. So in order for us to being able to deal with our problem we need to move from the Spirit in order to change our conditions. >>
That is the Spirit, (and not the spiritual part of us), but the Spirit. There is a very big difference here.
The Bible talks about a man who is asking Jesus this very question: How? And He answers by saying; we need to be born anew. We need to take in and accept this truth of our spiritual man.
“Now there was a certain man among the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler (a leader, an authority) among the Jews. Who came to Jesus at night and said to Him, Rabbi, we know and are certain that You have come from God (as) a Teacher; for on one can do these signs (these wonderworks, these miracles- and produce the proofs) that You do unless God is with Him. Jesus answered him, I assure you most solemnly I tell you, that unless a person is born again (anew, from above), he cannot ever see (know, be acquainted with, and experience) the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said to Him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter his mother’s womb again and be born? Jesus answered, I assure you most solemnly I tell you, unless a man is born of water and (even) the Spirit, he cannot (ever) enter the kingdom of God. What is born of (from) the flesh of flesh (of the physical is physical); and what is born of the Spirit is Spirit.” John 3:1-6 (AMPC)
It is important to know one self; the psychological side of one self. God gave us the ability to know ourselves. And I consider the fact that He gave us that ability to reflect; we need to use it in our lives in order to discern.
We can use the ability to reflect and know why we are who we are, but we can never mend a broken heart or soul – only the Spirit can. Obviously, no one, but the Spirit can move within us and strengthen our soul and mind.
The counselor becomes the person that points to how to let God Jesus into our life. This is the main turn around; we recognize that we are incapable, and we turn to the one who are capable.
